Custodial and self-custody wallets: an honest comparison
Who holds the keys decides what can go wrong. A straight explanation of both models, what each actually protects you from, and how to decide.
Every crypto wallet answers one question: who holds the private keys. Everything else follows from the answer, including which risks you are taking.
Self-custody
You hold the keys, usually as a twelve or twenty-four word recovery phrase. No company can freeze your funds, and no company failing can take them with it.
The cost is that nothing is recoverable. Lose the phrase and the funds are unreachable permanently. Let someone see it and they can empty the wallet from the other side of the world. There is no password reset, because there is nobody holding anything to reset.
This suits people who are comfortable being their own bank and who will genuinely write the phrase down and store it properly.
Custodial
A service holds the keys and keeps a balance for you. You sign in with an email or an account, and recovery is possible because there is somebody to ask.
The cost is that you are trusting that service. If it is careless with keys, goes under, or simply stops answering, your balance is a claim rather than a holding. This is the model exchanges use, and it is why the phrase "not your keys, not your coins" exists.
Which BYCRYPTO is, plainly
BYCRYPTO is custodial. Your balance is held for you, and you sign in rather than managing a recovery phrase. That is a real trade and worth stating rather than glossing over.
Two things are true about how it is built. The panel itself never generates, stores or touches a private key — there is no seed phrase on these servers to steal. And no payout is automated: every withdrawal is reviewed and sent by a person, so no single bug or stolen session can drain funds on its own.
What that does not change is the underlying trade. Hold what you are comfortable having held on your behalf, and withdraw to an address you control whenever you want to. For long-term savings you do not intend to touch, self-custody hardware is the better tool, and saying otherwise would be selling you something.
