AirPods Pro 3 vs AirPods 4: Which AirPods Should You Buy? (2026)

Apple sells three main AirPods today: AirPods 4, AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation and AirPods Pro 3. They look similar but suit different people.

The quick answer

• AirPods 4 — the best choice if you don't like ear tips and mostly listen at home or in quiet places.
• AirPods 4 with ANC — open-fit comfort plus noise cancellation for commuting.
• AirPods Pro 3 — the best sound isolation, the strongest noise cancellation and extra health features.

Fit: open vs in-ear

AirPods 4 have an open fit — they rest in the ear without silicone tips. Many people find that more comfortable for hours, but it lets in more outside sound. AirPods Pro 3 use silicone ear tips that seal the ear, which is why their noise cancellation is so much stronger.

Which should you buy?

If you take the bus, train or plane, or work in a noisy office, AirPods Pro 3 are worth the extra money. If comfort matters most and you rarely need silence, AirPods 4 (or the ANC model) are the smart pick.
